Gosh, now it's been over 2 years since my last post! I still have a ton of swap items to post, so I am going to work on getting them done before the end of 2010. 2011, my goal is to use swap items. So I want to change the blog to be more page ideas.

I've been playing around with the Blogger Templates to change the look. If anyone is reading this, you may see design changes over the next few weeks, as I try to settle on what I like.

I'm not actually a fan of the new blogger template. I want more font choices, and want to change the colors in ways that the template isn't set up to handle. So off to Google to see where I need to edit the HTML to get it to do what I want.

I still have a ton of Disney elements to add to my blog, but I figured posts like this might be helpful too. I am working on a couple of wedding albums for DH's twin cousins both married this summer. One is getting a full 12x12 scrapbook, since she hired me to take pictures. I also decided to make a small 8x8 book for her sister. I had a lot of good pictures, and I try to squish in as many as I can, so I decided to create sketches. I will use pictures that are 5x7, 4x6, 3x4 and 2x3.

Remember that you can turn a sketch to get different layouts as well. I plan on doing this for the 12x12 book too. But I am nowhere ready to do that yet.

Disney Dreams Title and Embellished Shapes

Disney Dreams is another show on board Disney cruises. It takes you into the dreams of Anne Marie where she is visited by several familiar Disney characters.

I haven't entirely abandoned by pre-Cricut items. The font for the title was partially done with Sizzix "Girls are Weird" and partially Sizzix "Monkey Tails." The clouds were cut with the icon feature from Mickey and Friends cartridge.

Stateroom Title and Squares

One of the things I try to do with my scrapping take a different approach to color. For example, for my Fourth of July set, I didn't use red, white and blue. I used yellow, white and blue. For the stateroom set, I wanted something decidedly NOT nautical in color. While perusing the paper aisle at Hobby Lobby, I found this patterned paper and I thought it would fit the bill. The photo didn't really capture the colors well, but it is a burnt orange, pale green and yellow.

The flags are the icon and border feature from one of the Donald cuts from the Mickey & Friends cartridge. The edges have been inked on the squares.

Golden Mickeys Borders & Lyric

So I had used my friend's Cricut for previous swap items, now you will be able to tell I have my own, as the use of it will become more frequent.

For those that haven't been on a Disney Cruise, Golden Mickeys is the shows that they perform on board, during Formal Night. Golden Mickeys actually, is more than just a show in a theater. They roll out the red carpet from the Atrium down past the shops to the entrance of the Walt Disney Theater. In the half hour before the start of the show, they will have someone interviewing the arrivals, ala "Joan Rivers on the Red Carpet." The arrivals, are just other cruise passengers. And since it is Formal Night, everyone is dressed up. If you are already in the theater, the interviews are shown on the two side screens.

The lyric is "Who Knows Where a Dream May Lead," the song that they use to end the show. It was too big to fit on one piece with the borders and I assume people want to include photos. So I split it up into two parts. Small square gold brads in the corners

The Mickey punch is sold at the parks.

Captain Mickey Paper Piecing and Photo Mats

I really wasn't planning on adding any more pieces before my trip. But I made the mistake of finishing everything I needed to get done before it was time for bed. So now I've been spaz-ing out all day. To paraphrase the Disney commercial, "I'm too excited to do anything!" Blogging does usually take a bit of time, so I'll see how much time I can burn off, with some more posts.

Onto Disney Cruise swap items...

On board ship, they sell a Disney Cruise coloring book. That gave me access to the pattern to create this captain Mickey paper piecing. The clipart from the photo mats came from the sign that they had marking the entrance to the embarkation area. Colors were obviously, inspired by the colors of Captain Mickey himself. The eyelets on the one mat are reminiscent of a ship's portholes or rigging holes.

Paper: This time, it's all valuepack type paper from JoAnn's or Michaels.

I created the starburst pattern in Paint Shop Pro, for the background of the title. You can create a symmetric shape, and input the number of sides you want. I played around until I got something that looked right underneath the box the size of the title. I cut out extra numbers so that people could use it for whatever year they wanted. The blue & silver ribbon is Christmas ribbon that I found cheap.

Over on Two Peas in A Bucket they have something called PeaSoup. There you can find all sorts of quotes, song lyrics, poems for any subject you can think of. That's where I found the New Year's Day quote by Edith Lovejoy Pierce.

I think the easter basket is the only non-Disney paper piecing I have made. The patterned paper, and the eggs are all SEI. The plain colors are the backside of patterned paper.

The eggs on the title are pop dotted, and then the letters are pop dotted on top of the pop dotted eggs. Small flowers on the E, are Jolee's. Chocolate Bunny brad ordered from Bargain Pack .

License Plates & Bookmarks

So I lied, there will be posts before the 10th. I got caught up on things I needed to do, and I can't pack until the laundry is dry. I have a burst of energy, so here we go.

These are the last pieces from the Surprise Swap. You might remember that this Surprise Swap provided the impetus for this blog. I posted the pics of my completed projects, swappers picked their favorites and those were the pieces I sent for most of the Disney groups. However, some people didn't request items, or didn't request enough items for the groups I was in, so I had to make a few brand new items to fill all my spots.

In most swaps, you can predict which items are going to get made. Toppers, photo mats, tags, embellished shapes are all popular choices. So I picked elements that hardly ever get made. And you know what? These are both really easy elements to make. The most difficult part of the license plate is cutting out the 2 holes on top. I actually trace the hole with a stencil from a McDonald's Happy Meal! It's the "Number 1" part, turned sideways. Then I use an Exacto knife to cut it. Bookmarks are really only large tags.

Interesting story, for the patterned paper for the bookmarks. It was free! Every September, Bazzill Basics Paper holds a warehouse sale, and on the way out there was a box marked "free." It was leftover paper from a kit project. So it was all 2-3" x 12", not too useful for most people, but it was great for the bookmarks. When we came to Denver in February, I found the paper I used for Belle on clearance at Archiver's, so I was able to get a couple sheets to use for whatever page I end up putting my Belle bookmark to use.

The Stitch license plate, actually has an "Alien Stitch" clipart pop dotted in the middle. I had miscalculated how many I needed to print, and so never finished mine. A year later, and it's still not done. That is a project I should accomplish, "Finish all the 90% done pieces."

I hoped to do a better job of daily updates. Last weekend, I went to Tahoe for a family wedding, so there was a bunch of prep work that had to get done before I could play with my blog. Of course, when I travel, I seem to catch something, so I have been down most of this week with a cold. On Tuesday, I am flying to Walt Disney World to see my parents and to go to the Epcot Pin Trading event next weekend. I will be home on the 10th, so probably on the 12th I will get back to posting, but don't hold me to that.

Christmas Lyric and Journal Box

The large snowflake on the lyric and the ribbon were purchased at Joann's after Christmas clearance. The snowflake was originally a piece of garland for Christmas Trees that I cut apart and attached with a glue dot.

The Lyric is "Let it Snow," printed on vellum. The font is Chopin Script which can be downloaded on dafont.com .

Halloween Elements

I'm not quite sure what to call these. They are tags, without the eyelets and ribbon, or large embellished shapes. On my pages, I'm usually looking for "filler." Something to fill in the blank spaces in between photos, so that's what I decided to make.

This is the first time I used Bazzill's Bling paper. I use a lot of it now, the shimmery surface makes everything look a little fancier and more special. I also loved this line of Making Memories Halloween paper. I bought quite a bit of it to use for my own Halloween pages, and for the Haunted Mansion.

This Little Piggy Box & Tag

Another "Anything Goes" swap item. I found the piggy ribbon in the Dollar bin at Michaels and I thought it was so cute, that I had to have it. Then I found a Pig Sizzix die on clearance, and I had to have it. I thought this could be used for kids pages or farm pages.

Pieces in the Surprise Swap also introduce the debut of my Cricut. I had visited my scrapping buddy and played with hers. Fell in love, luckily about that time AC Moore started their online shopping website, and for their grand opening had an AWESOME deal for the baby bug.

How about a few non-Disney items...

One of the DISers hosts one of my favorite swaps...a Surprise Swap. It's a no pressure swap, everyone makes whatever they want. No saying what your topic is going to be, no saying what your element is going to be. It's great for using up your "stash." The only direction is that the group would have a theme. So we have Disney groups, Halloween, Christmas, and then "Anything Goes."

So I did these for "anything goes." They could be used in a 4th of July Layout or BBQ or just anything summery.

A couple of the groups in the swaps were "color/pattern swaps." The idea being that they could be used anywhere, and the recipient could add their own titles, or extra embellishments. Or just keep them as is.

I love this wide fiber ribbon, found it at a local scrapbook store. And I even managed to use my Mickey "whale of a punch" to make the Mickey head. I also used a different color of the fiber that I used on the Capybara pieces. The patterned paper is double sided, so I used one side for one mat, and one side for the other.

The Pluto paper piecing is the first time, I took advantage of the computer. Previous paper piecings, I printed it, cut out the pieces and traced them, or I used tracing paper. This time, I used Paint Shop Pro to break up a coloring page. Each different color, was placed on a different layer in the program, so that I could print only the lines I needed for each color. While getting used to the computer work, took some time, it made it sooo much easier to get a great quality paper piecing. The pattern for Pluto came from an Animal Kingdom coloring book that was available during the opening of the park.

Fibers are from the yarn department at JoAnns. Beads on the photo mat are from the beading department at JoAnns. The metal embellishment on the tag is from All My Memories. They were sold in a pack of 3 "Discover," "Adventure," "Explore."

"Step into the Wild" is a phrase that Disney has used in advertising Animal Kingdom.

More generic, can be used anywhere, Animal Kingdom pieces. This ribbon also came from Joanns. They have some beautiful pieces in the ribbon by the yard section. While I was looking, I found some that was $19 a yard! I think this one was $2 a yard, but I had a coupon for 40% off. It's been awhile since I went looking for fancy ribbon. They have a ton of stuff on sale this week, maybe I should go check it out.

Camp Minnie-Mickey Paper Piecing

I know this is one the DIS scrappers favorite pieces. This is also an example of what happens to me when I get an idea stuck in my head. I will look at pictures of the park for inspiration, and this is based off one of the signs that marks the direction and entrance of Camp Minnie-Mickey. When I found the photo of the sign, I knew this is what I wanted to do, but I didn't know how I could possibly do it. But it kept eating at me.

So I saved a copy of the photo, and in Paint Shop Pro I erased all the color, leaving only something where the lines would be. Then on another layer, I basically traced the remaining bits to create a line drawing of the sign. Then I had to break it apart into each of the layers, print on each of the colors of cardstock, cut it out and piece it together. The easy part were the letters, those are Sizzlet alphabet "Playground."

On the actual sign, a bear is attacking Mickey, Donald, Huey, Dewey and Louie, but after everything it took to do this, I could not tackle the bear. However, now that the image has been created, making more is a simple task. Well, as simple as a paper piecing ever is. Just print, cut and assemble.

For the swap, I also made a library pocket and tag, but I sent mine away, and haven't remade it yet, so no pic.

A couple of the swap groups were animals. The one group, had common animals like my elephant post above. The other group, everyone prided themselves on picking something more unique. I picked the Capybara, which I had remembered from early trips to Animal Kingdom. However, on my visits in 2007/2008 it appears the Capybara is no longer there.

While researching the Capybara, I also found out that Disney Storyboard artist Bill Peet at one time owned a Capybara. I should also mention that the Capybara is the world's largest rodent.

Also for the Animal Kingdom swaps, I discovered some interesting fibers at a local scrapbook store, which made great accents.

Here is another example of using an appropriate quote. And more Imaginisce paper. I made the bird on the title by

1. Sending my Dad to Animal Kingdom to take pictures of the signage for the show. I had hoped that he would have taken a picture of the rug that says "Caravan Stage" but he didn't.

2. Editing out everything except the bird.

3. Using the clone brush to finish the wings, since the tips weren't on the original design.

The kit for the swap, also included a Rafiki paper piecing. The image of when he is sitting on the rocks, with the sun behind him. That was a tough paper piecing to do, with all the tiny pieces and dark cardstock for his hands and feet. Mine is actually not even done, which is why there isn't a picture.

Many of my groups contain a relevant quote, such as this one from John James Audubon. And I also used a bunch of appropriate words. Like this group uses "Discover," and the group below uses "Adventure."

This is one of the few pieces that didn't use Imaginisce paper. However, the cardstock is the same colors that I had been using for all the other Animal Kingdom pieces, so they do coordinate. After making a ton of other pieces, my creative juices were sapped, and so this one is more on the plain side. Which is actually nice some time, we get a lot of pieces that are specific to an attraction or show, but we all have a ton of pictures in random places around the park to scrap too. Shout out to my fellow DIS scrapper from Indiana, who sent me tons of fiber. I ended up using some of it for the tags in this project.

In August of 2007, I participated in two Animal Kingdom swaps. I found a bunch of paper from Imaginisce on clearance at Recollections, and I thought it would be perfect for these swaps. The papers were all from the Trade Winds and Exotic East collections.

For this swap, I tried two techniques for the first time: paper tearing and inking. I really liked how they turned out, but I think tearing is too much work and has too much paper waste to do for most swaps, but I will probably use it in my books. I did tear against a ruler, it short, quick bursts, to try and get it to look not so clean. I used "Value Pack" paper for the torn pieces, so I didn't feel quite so guilty for only getting 2 mats per sheet. That could get real expensive if I used Bazzill. Inking, I love, but forget to do it until after I've finished. I was able to buy a bunch of Bazzill Inks from their warehouse sale, so I have a lot of colors to play with. This color, I think, is Ivy.

Morocco - Squares & Tag

When this blog left off, I was participating in an Epcot swap. I had managed to scan the Fountain of Nations project before mailing it off, but not Morocco. So now, a year later, here it is.

The squares, I had previously made for Morocco pages in my scrapbook from my first trip to WDW. I think this was the first time I used "Bling" in my books. You can buy a package of rhinestones at a craft store, for a couple bucks. The Tag is inspired by the decorative arches that you can find throughout the country in Epcot. The flower sequins I actually picked up from a garage sale.

I think I have finished taking photos. Actually, I know there are a couple things missing, so I am not quite done. I took about 50 pictures, plus there are several pieces that I had photographed and posted on the DIS. So there are probably 75 projects to post. I'm not going to get them all done at once. So there will be a reason to come back to the blog everyday.

I have a storage box that is stuffed to the gills with the scrap stuff I have received over the past year. Today, I started digging through it to photograph the pieces I had made. Apparently, I made a lot of crap, and I had forgotten half the pieces I had made! I'm probably halfway through the tub, and I'm tired. I'm trying to post chronologically, so unfortunately the stuff that needs to go on the blog next, is the stuff on the bottom of the pile. I had cleaned my scrap space in preparation of this project...now it needs cleaning all over again, with bags of pieces sprawled everywhere!

Updating the blog

It's been a year since I last posted. I haven't stopped scrapping, or swapping, so I have a whole year's worth of projects to add to the blog, over the coming days. I definitely have done a ton of swaps, so I have even more items that need to someday make it into my scrap books. So I'm going to attempt to switch my focus from swapping to scrapping, so maybe I will put some completed pages on the blog someday.

Fountain of Nations Lyric and Tag

Last one for awhile, these were done for the Fountain of Nations which is the dancing fountain in Future World at Epcot. Every 15 minutes the fountain will perform. I printed the song list on vellum and put that over a photograph of the fountain that I had my Dad take.

The tag is meant to be a stylized fountain. It is made from 2 different types of patterned paper. It also has a vellum top layer.

Font for the tag is a free font, Chopin Script.

The font for the Lyric is free font, Prototype.

Princess Titles

I was not all recovered from my trip across the Atlantic, when I needed to get something done for the Surprise Swap, so I decided to go back to basics.

Most of the fonts are Sizzlit Monkey Tails. However, that was too big for Snow White, so the S and W are Monkey Tails, and the rest are Sizzlit Boxed Brush.

I used a variety of embellishments appropriate to the character. The stickers for the Ariel, Cinderella and Snow White pieces are Sandylion. Some of them are borders that were cut into smaller pieces. The actual Snow White piece had 3 flowers, the white, and then 2 yellow, but I ran out before I got to mine. I bought them at Hobby Lobby, and it's a 45 minute drive each way, so I figured I could live without flowers on mine for awhile.

The paper is all Bazzill Bling, I will add the colors in a bit.

Tower of Terror Title Box and Tag

The inspiration for these pieces came from the color and design of the costumes worn by the CMs at the attraction.

Two fonts are used on the title. The classic hotel font is Garamond, the Tower of Terror, is a free font based on the font used for the show called TwyliteZone.

The image for the tag is from a set of playing cards sold at the attraction at Disney's California Adventure. I used the ball chain in place of ribbon, because I thought it would make it seem more like a room key.

MGM Borders and Lyric

The lyric is the dedication for Disney-MGM Studios. The sticker came from a set sold at WDW, a few years ago. MGM font is Sizzlit Boxed Brush. Font for lyric is free font, Mouse Deco. The colors and the lines were inspired by the entrance to the park.

Clipart of the Disney Gang dressed up to in their Hollywood finest came from DisneyClips.

The silver squares were made using the Frames, Square Combo Sizziz diecut.

Muppet Journal box

I got the idea early on, that it would be neat to have a Muppet looking over the top of what you were writing, and of course he would be wearing the 3D glasses from the Muppet Vision attraction.

The stickers are from American Greetings.

Most of the paper is basic cardstock from Michaels or JoAnns, but his nose is Bazzill Hazard, because a Muppet nose needs texture. The rainbow paper is A2Z Art Stripes.

Asia Borders and License Plate

The paper used for these pieces is from the Far East Paper Stack by Die Cuts with a View.

The images on the borders are the logos and signs for the attractions located in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom.

Font for borders is free font, Samarkan, which came from dafont.com.

The font for the Asia letters is Ukiran which also came from dafont.com.

The metal embellishment is from the Imaginisce Exotic East Collection.

Paper Piecings, I love them, but they are time consuming. Especially, all the detailing. For this one I wondered if I could scan the coloring page, separate it into layers, and then print each layer on the right colored cardstock. For the tree, and only 3 colors, it worked really well. I'm not sure how it would work for more elaborate work. I freehanded the Title part in Paint Shop Pro.

Canada Lyric, Mats, Paper Piecing and Squares

I grew up about 35 minutes from the Washington/British Columbia border. When I think of Canada, it's not just the Maple leaf, I think of, but the influence of the native peoples. So when I decided to do the Canada pieces, that is the direction I went, and not the English influence, French influence or the maple leaf.

The lyric is the words to "Canada (You're a Lifetime Journey), the song that plays during the CircleVision movie "Oh, Canada."

Font for the Canada title is a free font, Old Town.

The image for the paper piecing came from the package of an old EPCOT Center passport. Each of the countries had Mickey wearing the headgear appropriate for the country. These images were also used on buttons that they sold during the 80's and early 90s. I would LOVE to have clean images of all countries to make them all.

The Land Shaker Box, Box and Tag

Long before I ever started swapping, for one of my own books, I used the original Epcot Future World pavilion logos as the inspiration for a set of paper piecings. Most of the original logos have been removed as each of the pavilions were updated. The Land was one of the last pavilions to still use it, as you could find them on the Fastpass machines for "Living with the Land." But I think those are even history now.

The Land's symbol had so many openings that I thought it would make a very cool shaker box. Little did I know how much trouble those shakers would cause. For some reason, every adhesive I used would not stick to both the fun foam and the paper. I thought I had finally found one, but when I was sorting my swap stuff, I found mine had split open again. So if I made one of these for you, and it popped open, I apologize.

The tag is inspired by the balloons that hang over the center of the pavilion. Each balloon represents a different season: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

The grass paper and the paper for the balloons were all from the DCWV The Stack III.

France Title and Library Pocket

During the 4th of July clearance, I picked up a roll of red white and blue ribbon. I knew it would be perfect for making a French flag. I bought the ribbon in August, and I waited, and waited for an Epcot swap so I could make items for the France pavilion. Finally, in January 2007 I could.

The rose paper for the lower layer is from DCWV The Stack III. I didn't think I would ever use that paper, but it was perfect for the elegance of France.

These are for the letter "E" in the ABC swap. The paper piecing is based on the same Retro merchandise line as the Disneyland Title.

The image on the tag is a scan of a WDW lanyard pin of one of the Tiki Gods in WDW's Adventureland.

The title is printed on vellum and uses a free font called Castaway.

All the paper used is from ProvoCraft The Slab 6.

ABC Swap Title and End pages

My friend, KatDisney, needed someone to step in last minute to angel for her ABC swap. In addition to the letter E, I also needed to do the Title and End pages for everyone. Everything was sized for an 8x8 book.

The first thing that popped into my mind, was the song that played at the end of the Mickey Mouse Club, "Now it's time to say goodbye..." So that got me off onto the whole MMC theme. I used the song from the opening around the edge of the Title page. As part of the intro, the Mouseketeers would do the "Roll Call" and that worked really well with the idea of an "ABC" swap. Each day, was a different day on the MMC. Monday was "Fun With Music," Tuesday was "Guest Star Day", Wednesday "Anything Can Happen", Thursday "Circus Day," and Fridays were "Talent Roundup Day." Of those "Anything Can Happen" would be the most appropriate for the book. The small library pocket and tag is for people to write the dates and location of their trip.

Sailing Ship Columbia Lyric and Squares

One last Laughing Place swap. Several of our swappers became mommies and so our swapping tailed away.

To make the lyric, I used the Sizzix Scroll diecut. Then I crumbled it up into a little ball. I flattened it back out, and then chalked the edges and top. The lyric itself is a verse of "A Whale of A Tale," from the movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." The anchor is a button, and I used hemp cord and a Karen Foster jumbo eyelet to make it look like ships rigging and a rivet.

One of the squares is the attraction poster, the other a sticker from a sheet of tall ships. This one is actually a Spanish ship, and looks nothing like the Columbia, but some of the other ones on the sheet looked more like the Brig. The 2 smaller squares are Karen Foster jumbo brads.

Woody and the Prospector Title, Mat, Frame, Lyric,

These are the pieces that inspired the creation of this blog. KatDisney, a fellow Disney scrapper and neighbor, used these pieces on a page and posted a picture on the DISboards. The response, was so positive, I was asked to make more of them. I figured if one thing of mine was so popular, maybe others would be too, and that I should have a spot with pictures of everything. I could explain where my ideas came from, and maybe that would be inspiring to other people.

This was another "Good and Evil" batch. In the Toy Story movies, we learn that Woody is a toy from a 50's show called Woody's Roundup. The theme song, is what I used fro the lyric. On the show, Woody battled the evil prospector, Stinky Pete, with help from his trusty horse Bullseye and his girlfriend Jessie. When "Woody, the toy", meets "Stinky Pete, the toy," Stinky Pete is very valuable because he is MINT IN BOX! His box made the ideal basis for the frame.

The tag is inspired by the bedspread that they used to use in the Wilderness Lodge Rooms. When Disney refurbished the rooms, they sold the room decor to a place called Mouse Surplus. When my parents moved to Florida, the first thing I did was buy the bedroom set, so now I own the bedspread. I just have to go to Florida to see it.

The inspiration for these pieces was the animated short, "Pluto's Christmas Tree." Especially, the scene where Pluto has strung all the ornaments, and the tree top on his tail to take them over to the tree.

In this case, Pluto's tail is wire that has been hot glued to the paper, and strung with craft beads.

I was married on the 4th of July, so when I think of the holiday, it is not always Red, White & Blue that comes to mind. But Yellow, Blue and White, my wedding colors. I knew most people would go with red, white, and blue, but year after year that can get boring, and I figured that this paper would give an impression of a picnic blanket.

I did get a little red thrown in there with the lady bug, and the watermelon. The watermelon is just a red circle on top of a green circle, and then cut in half. The seeds are the toes from a paw print punch.

This was supposed to be a Disney holiday swap, so that's why the lady bug's spots are tiny Mickey punches.

Brer Guys Mat, Frame, Squares, Lyric

Brer Bear and Brer Fox have been trying to catch Brer Rabbit for years, with no success. They are characters in the animated sequences in "The Song of the South," a movie most Americans have never seen. However, the characters are known to park visitors because they are the main characters of Splash Mountain, and they were used as mascots for the Dixie Landings Resort in WDW (now Port Orleans - Riverside.)

I got the pattern for the Brer Rabbit paper piecing from a children's menu from one of the Dixie Landings' restaurants. Yes, Brer Rabbit normally has white around his mouth, but I just could not get it to look right.

The frame, is supposed to be Brer Fox and Brer Bear's home, with wallpapered walls, and a dusty floor and their stuff scattered everywhere as they ran off to try and catch Brer Rabbit one more time.

Wood embellishments came from Michaels.

Flower paper is from Foofala.

Shrunken Ned Mats and Lyric

This was another set that I really enjoyed making. In the middle of the Adventureland Bazaar at Disneyland, is an arcade machine. For $.50, "the jungle's only self-service witch doctor," Shrunken Ned will diagnose you, and you will leave with a souvenir card with his "diagnosis." For WDW, visitors, Shrunken Ned is also the proprietor of the remote control boats located near the Jungle Cruise, but alas, no cool machine for you.

I scanned three of the cards, and resized them for the lyric. The image of the head on the photo mat is what is on the back of the cards. I added the Jungle Fever, to make them more useful for anything Adventureland.

When WDW's Magic Kingdom opened Stitch's Great Escape they updated the monorail spiels to have Stitch break in occasionally. One of the things Stitch says is something like,

"When will we be there? When, when, when, WHEN!"

I know I used to drive my parents crazy with that sentiment, so I thought it would work for items to put on those "getting ready/traveling" pages.

Disneyland Title and Journal Boxes

2005 was Disneyland's 50th anniversary, and as part of the merchandising push they came out with a line of "Retro" merchandise. The primary logo was the Disneyland sign, and I thought it would be perfect to recreate.

Luckily, I found a roll of gold "stuff," I don't even know how to describe it, at a garage sale and it made the perfect background. The colors are brighter, more neon, than how they scanned.

The quote on the one box is from a sign you pass under when you go under the railroad tracks.

Paper for journal boxes is Doodlebug cotton candy dot.

Beauty and the Beast Shaker Box

At the beginning of the movie, we see a stained glass window, and then the narrator goes on to tell the story of how the prince was cursed.

I scanned a pin made for the DVD release of the movie to use as the inside of the box. The grey paper was supposed to give it a stoney look, not sure how well that came out.

And of course, roses are necessary.

When Hong Kong Disneyland opened, they had a merchandise line called "Disney Cuties." It became very popular, and it expanded to the Tokyo parks and the American parks too. I thought it would be a different take on Mickey & Minnie, because I figured everyone had a lot of the traditional red, white, yellow & black.

I found clipart on DisneyClips and then used it to create paper piecings of the characters.

Lady and the Tramp Lyric

Okay, this is one my favorite pieces I have ever made. If you watch Lady and the Tramp, it starts with the quote that is inside the box. Later, Jim Dear presents Darling with a hat box, and inside the box is Lady, the puppy. My first attempt was just the box, with the swiveling lid, but I thought it was missing something. So I found the clipart of the adult Lady and the Tramp and then made the red rug in Paint Shop Pro. It's just concentric ovals, nothing fancy.

Adventureland Frames

I dislike cutting out frames, because I hate cutting out the center hole. Then when they need to be double matted! For these frames, I did just that for the top layer, but the bottom layer is just four strips of paper arranged to look like a frame.

The "Adventureland" images are scans of pins sold at WDW. I used raffia to add texture and dimension to one of the frames. The leaves on the other, are using a Sizzix diecut.

Main Street Tags

The inspiration for these tags came from the vests worn by the Dapper Dans, a barbershop quartet that performs on Main Street. Each of the items listed, is a location on Main Street USA at WDW's Magic Kingdom. Some of them have a piece of fun foam behind them to make them "pop" out.

Haunted Mansion Shaker Box and Library Pocket

The shaker box is inspired by the tombstones visible from the queue at the Magic Kingdom. Each of the "dearly departed" is an Imagineer that worked on the attraction. The tombstone I used says,

"At Peaceful Rest Lies Brother Claude. Planted Here Beneath This Sod."

Brother Claude, refers to Claude Coates, one of the primary designers for the Haunted Mansion. Claude designed basically, everything before the ballroom scene. The Ballroom and Graveyard scenes were done by Marc Davis, who has his own tombstone.

The library pocket and tag were inspired by the "Beware of Hitchhiking" scene which is just before the unload area. I printed the ghosts on a lt blue vellum and then backed them with purple paper. The background of the letters is the same image that is on the wallpaper inside the attraction. The shape of the cutout is reminiscent of the arch the ghosts appear in on the attraction.

Happiest Celebration on Earth "Forever Dreaming"

For 2005-2006, the Walt Disney theme parks held the "Happiest Celebration on Earth" to celebrate Disneyland's 50th anniversary. The celebration was held worldwide, and so, of course, we needed a swap.

Disney released a book, celebrating Disneyland's 50th anniversary. Each chapter, focused on one aspect of the Disney culture: Magic, Enchantment, Thrills, Music, etc. So the idea for this one was that everyone would make items that used one of the chapter titles. Mine was "Forever Dreaming." In addition, we chose to limit the primary colors to Red, Blue and Gold, since those were the colors used in the celebration.

The matted lyric is actually doublesided. One side has the quote shown, which Walt made about the "Florida Project" which became Walt Disney World. The other side has the Disneyland dedication. I did it this way, because not all of the swap participants had been to WDW, and not all had been to Disneyland. This way, people could choose which side they wanted to use. The frame is a Sizzix diecut.

The idea behind the file folder, is that Walt Disney Imagineering, has so many ideas that they are just bursting out of the files.

"Lights, Motor, Action!" Journal Box, Tag, Paper Piecing

"Lights, Motor, Action" is a stunt show at the Disney - MGM Studios. I made these for my first DISboards swap.

The image on the tag, is one I took, printed on vellum, and then backed with white cardstock.

For the paper piecing, I scanned a Disneyland pin of Herbie, and resized it. Herbie, the Love Bug makes an appearance during the show, so he was the perfect character to include. And he seems to have left some skid marks on the journal box. Here is a better scan of just Herbie.

Another LaughingPlace.com swap. This time for characters. I try to pick rarer things for my projects, or to come at it from a different angle. For this one, I selected my husband's favorite character, Rafiki.

Frontierland Photo Mats and Journal Boxes

For the third Laughing Place swap, the theme was Disneyland's 50th Anniversary, which the park celebrated in 2005. I picked two original attractions in Frontierland.

First, the Mark Twain Riverboat. As part of the celebration, Disneyland placed 50 "Hidden Mickeys" around the park, including one on the Mark Twain. So, of course, I had to include it on my box too.

Secondly, the Golden Horseshoe Stage. Although, it no longer shows the same show as it did when Disneyland opened, the building still exists. The stage didn't have a "Hidden Mickey" but I added my own, because I thought it fit the theme of the swap.

and of course its most recognizable feature; the face at the center of the wheel.

Sleeping Beauty Castle Matted Lyric and Embellished Squares

These were the first swap items I ever made. I made these for a swap on Laughing Place
The lyric is from the song "Once Upon a Dream" from Sleeping Beauty. The photograph was taken by Disneyland's official photographer Rene Bardeau, one morning in October 1964, before the park opened for the day.

The compass embellished square is a scan of a pin, once sold at Disneyland. It is a replica of a compass located on the ground in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The crest is the Disney crest that is located on front of the Castle. The images on the other squares are from Sleeping Beauty paper made by Hot of the Press, that I scanned and edited.
